A-10 pron: So much win,I'm all a twitter.

I love this aircraft for many reasons.

This is righteous. This is how God outsources.

Best attack aircraft ever made. I'm glad that in spite of the AFs best efforts to retire it, the A-10C upgrade will have them flying for a good long while.

I just wish they'd make a Super A-10 with twin GAU-8s, or maybe one and something like a 40mm Bofors for extra grins.

Unfortunately that won't happen. The recoil from the gun is enough to stall the plane already. They don't call that thing a tank killer for nothing. If my memory serves me correctly it fires a 9lb depleted uranium round.:ahhh:

That's actually something of a myth. The recoil is nothing to take lightly-- they mounted it on the centerline to prevent yaw issues, but it'll never come anywhere near close to stalling the aircraft in flight. It will certainly slow it, but you're talking a few knots of airspeed at best.

One issue they did have in early development of the plane was turbine flameouts due to gas ingestion from the gun. Hence the current engines have a self sustaining combustion chamber and the igniters engage when the gun is fired.

Guess you learn something everyday. I was told way back when about the stall issue. I stand corrected.
