Lambo techies: Will 560 brakes fit on the Superleggera?

Hey guys,

I need clarification on the title. I want to swap the Superleggera's black calipers with factory yellow ones. There is no stock in my country of yellow calipers, but there is a 560 on the with yellow. Would this be possible as a direct bolt on? Or are they different systems?

Thanks!

Best bet is to check the caliper part numbers at your dealership. If they are the same, then the answer is yes.

wyatth 08-09-2009 02:54 PM

I am taking a big guess that the calipers are NOT the same, because I've heard that the 560 CCB system is a lot smoother and improved from the SL. I don't know if it's due to the caliper or the rotor, though. And even if they are different, that does not mean they aren't interchangeable. So basically I did not help at all. Good luck!

Why not just have the calipers painted yellow?

Fuel&Fire 08-09-2009 09:22 PM

I dont know... But maybe I can tell you if we can see some PICS!!!

The aftermarket guys here are generally incompetant. I don't want peeling paint on a half mill car(heavy taxes) I can just imagine them trying to rewrite the Lamborghini text on the calipers with a permanent marker :D
They've done it before with somebody elses car, I almost died laughing.

Some pics.

Hot damn... That looks awesome Mike!

wyatth 08-10-2009 01:28 AM

looks great, Mike. Black SLs are delicious.

Thanks guys, I think the yellow calipers would be the finishing touch. I like the fact that it's "stealthy" at the moment, but the yellow would contrast lovely against the dark wheels.

Mike any plans to TT this one? I know you want to ;)

strebo 08-10-2009 07:39 AM

Some yellow color on those calipers would looks great indeed. Now we just need driving impressions. Great looking car btw!

Mike, you have great taste in cars. You know they only made 37 black SL's, I wonder if anyone else here on TS has another black one. hmm...

That's planned for a R8 V10 - don't want to spoil a perfectly good raging bull :)

Thanks ATL. Yeah, I heard they are quite rare for some odd reason. This is the only one in my country in this colour. I'm sure there will be one or two members with the same colour :HappyDance:

Nice cars Mike... I say you run through your garage snapping random pictures and post them just so we get a taste of what you have ;)

JonA85 08-10-2009 12:48 PM

Black is the best color for the Superleggeras IMO.

wyatth 08-10-2009 03:51 PM

Mike, unless the interior has some yellow, would you consider Red calipers? Would stand out all the same, plus match the taillights. Just a thought. Or even silver.

Yes, black is my favorite color on the SL for sure. I hope I can be the next member with a black one. That would leave 35 left. :yup:

Mike, if you do yellow calipers, would it be sacrilegious to pain the engine cover yellow so you can see it through the clear bonnet?

Fuel&Fire 08-10-2009 04:42 PM

Car Looks Great Mike!! Yellow Calipers would def. set it off! Also dont forget the 560 Front Bumper

Indeed you should get the 560 Bumper. It really adds another level of aggressiveness to the overall look of the car.

Everytime I go into the garage it looks as if the car wants to take a bite out of something.

I wouldn't go to that extent, I'm going to be keeping this car forever - I want to keep it original as possible :)

If you don't have any competent shops locally that do good work, you're better off sending them to a shop that can do the work using the right high temp paint, proper stencil for the lambo script and clear coat. I had mine done in Verde Ithaca and they look much better than factory finish. I'd also do the plenums in yellow to match as well as paint the SL wheels black for the yellow calipers to really stand out. Good luck!

Just to give you an idea.

Hi ron,

Thanks for the pic - I think your car looks great! I'm very doubtful of the local shops ability to pull this off. It will just not be anywhere near factory quality and will probably do more harm than good. I've given them benefit of the doubt too often, I must just realise this is not the States :D I'm not going to go through the headache of shipping the parts off somewhere internationally and potentially losing them, or waiting a month for it come back to me.

I'm going to just pursue swapping for another set of yellow factory calipers and that will be the end of "mods" from me :friends:
