Mercedes’ AMG division considering hybrid technology

Meeting with some of the press ahead of the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Volker Mornhinweg, CEO of Mercedes’ AMG division, gave reporters some exclusive insight into what AMG will be doing to become ’greener.’

Mornhinweg said that AMG will introduce gasoline direct-injection engines and start/stop technology in its entire lineup by 2012 in an effort to reduce overall CO2 emissions.

The AMG boss also said that the division is considering hybrid power as a possibility. He was quick to point out that there are no concrete plans as of yet, but the high torque produced by electric motors has a future with the AMG image.

“At the end of the day, we stand for torque,” Mornhinweg said.
Rumor also has it that AMG is working on a powerful V8 diesel model which will create more than 516 lb-ft of torque.

That would be a great thing, having those engineers working on that concept, I'm sure they can "bang" out something that would be awesome. It's funny that they state AMG still is in the business of torque but an electric motor can deliver hellish amounts of torque....I'm sure they will figure something out
