MacBook Pro Retina Display – Unboxing

Picked up my new laptop last week, so far it is amazing how bad sites and software look on this amazing screen...hopefully everyone upgrades to highrez soon.

That's what I wondered about, how long until everyone upgrades? Surely there isn;t much incentive yet for people to spend the money and redo it all.

Went to buy a new air as an upgrade to the "fleet"...instead I left pondering the MBP retina.

Cool thing is that it now has hdmi.

this will be interesting. retina display is obviously the future - it's beautiful when sites support it.

but it's hard enough to build a web site these days (desktop, mobile, responsive design, etc); now you have to create 2 sets of asset classes for the next 3-5 years & figure out a way to serve them properly.

some sites, like apple, will make 2 calls for every image to see if there's a high-res version = slowness & bandwidth hog.

and millions of mom & pop sites (eg, most of them out there) will never upgrade their assets; so the majority of web sites will look crappy on the retina display for a long time.

curious to see how this plays out.

I've had mine for a week now and think the web looks great. The biggest thing is that text is night and day sharper. Considering everything I do on the computer somehow involves reading, this is a major upgrade. btw, I'm selling my 11" Air if anyone wants it.

Steve how do you compare them? I have a 2011 Air also and considering this?

The 15 is obviously much bigger, much faster and the screen is much more sharp. I haven't traveled since I got it, but just from bringing it around town some, I think the size is still manageable. I found the older 15" MBP to be too big and heavy to carry around. If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them
