Porsche 991 Targa, Boxster/Cayman GTS Models Coming

A report leaked on Jalopnik this week confirms information we have been reporting here on Teamspeed for the past two years -- Porsche is bringing back the classic open-air style targa to the 991 line-up. Unofficially these slides were from a "secret" dealer meeting to go over upcoming product offerings.

The new Targa will feature a very "trick" automatic sliding roof, and will be based off the Carrera 4 and 4S. Pricing should be in the $100-120k range.

What was a bit of a surprise was the reveal of two GTS offerings coming to the Boxster/Cayman line-up. The two variants will debut at next year’s Beijing Motor Show in April, and include a 15-horsepower increase, manual transmission (optional dual-clutch PDK), and PASM. The team at Jalopnik goes on to note these models will be priced around $75,000.

Very excited to see the old targa design coming back for the 991. Any rumors on when it will be introduced?

GTS versions of Cayman/Boxster should be good too. Does this mean we will not see a R model for this generation?

Maybe January in Detroit for 2014 show?

It will be very interesting to see how the top works.

And also on Jalopnik's "spy shot" it doesn't say Targa "4"/"4"S, just Targa/S. Could a RWD Targa be a possibility?

Looks like it says 4 S to me

Only 4wd models. 4 and 4s.

Looks kind of weird.

You're right. It doesn't clarify that. It would be interesting to see a RWD Targa..

Anyone have any idea how this new fully automatic targa top might work? I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how you could the full targa opening seen in those pictures along with the "fully automatic" operation the article mentions.

If anyone has a lot of time on their hands, I bet Porsche has a patent for it logged away somewhere...
