The TxSpeed.com Racing Team sponsored by AWE Tuning dominated the NASA GTS3 National Championship Races!

The 2010 National Auto Sport Association (NASA) National Championships were held September 16-19, 2010, at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. This was the fifth annual National Championships hosted by NASA and the second year the event was held at Miller Motorsports Park’s 3-mile road course. Over 350 competitors from around the country descended upon Utah for their chance to earn the prestigious title of NASA National Champion.

One of those teams was TxSpeed.com Racing. Driver and team owner, Jay Matus, along with car builder / crew chief, Viking Sjovall, and Matus' wife, Team Manager Shannon Matus, have been campaigning a 2002 996 Porsche street car converted into a finely tuned race car for NASA’s German Touring Series (GTS3). It has been both men’s aspiration to clinch a National Championship. Like with any great success, it is supported by years of preparation, hard fought attempts and outstanding sponsors, family and friends that ultimately resulted in grasping the coveted title of NASA GTS3 National Champion.

Both men have a long history in amateur motor sports, with consistent wins, and a passion for the sport that has aided both of them to persevere through all the challenges that any Champion faces in route to a podium. One of those heart aches was the disintegration of the cars pressure plate during the 2009 NASA National Championships, which resulted in Team TxSpeed.com missing the podium in 2009. However, the team bounced back, and committed full force to go for the Championship in 2010, along with their sponsors: AWE Tuning, Viking Extreme Motorsports, Hoosier Racing Tires, Moton Suspension Technology, G.I.A.C. Tuning, VP Racing Fuels, California Motorsports.net, Driver’s Source of Houston and OG Racing.

The following National Auto Sport Association press releases summarize the outcome of each day's race:

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING RACE RESULTS (Thursday, September 16, 2010)

“The first qualifying race for GTS3 ended with Jay Matus crushing the competition by four seconds a lap in his Porsche 996. In second spot was Dan Goodman driving the number 56 BMW M3 sponsored. Third went to Gregory Dalgam driving the number 631 BMW M3.”

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING RACE RESULTS (Friday, September 17, 2010)

“Jay Matus, in his Porsche 996 stayed way ahead of the competition (three seconds a lap) and won the second qualifying race in GTS3 (he also won the first race). In second place was Dan Goodman in his BMW M3. The third place finisher was Gregory Dalgarn in his BMW M3. This finishing order was a mirror of qualifying race 1 and it set up the grid for the championship race.”

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MAIN RACE RESULTS (Sunday, September 19, 2010)

“Probably one of the most dominate class winners of the 2010 NASA National Championships was Jay Matus. Matus crushed the competition in both qualifying races, then during the national championship race, he ran away from his class by three seconds per lap to become the 2010 NASA GTS3 National Champion in his Porsche 996. Second place went to Gregory Dalgam driving the number 631 BMW M3. Third went to hard charger Doug Grande”

The TxSpeed.com Racing Team is committed to fighting for more Championships, and has now made the move to GTS4. The team will also have another contender on the scene in 2011 in GTS3. Matus and Sjovall know that the success of the team in the 2010 Championship and any future Championship is directly linked to the support of family, friends and awesome sponsors. Thanks again to: AWE Tuning, Viking Extreme Motorsports, Hoosier Racing Tires, Moton Suspension Technology, G.I.A.C. Tuning, VP Racing Fuels, California Motorsports.net, Driver’s Source of Houston and OG Racing.

Agreed. I love the variant of the 996 GT3.. they were classy, and for the time they looked sophisticated with the official bad ass logo to go along with it.
IMO one of my top 5 favorite Porsches ever.
