when we give rides in Sledgehammer, people first think it is stock car. the car drives and idles like stock when you are not on the gas. but when you put your foot it in, the g forces are so massive that your eyeballs start to go the the side of your head. it is unbelievable how streetable sledgehammer is. it was built to be the ultimate street car.
Whilst I sincerely love this stuff and appreciate hearing about it and to be able to digest all the information, you cannot really be serious with the above statement ?
The "people" who think it is a stock car have probably never had experience of a stock VTG Porsche turbo. The raison d'etre of the new VTG Mezger engines is this phenomenal torque curve. Even my massaged engine with bigger VTGs starts boosting properly at 2500rpm and by 2800rpm has 800NM which is a major slug in the back with continues until 6800rpm where it still has 80% of this torque number, this makes for a very distinctive experience, a very smooth slug of Gs which for day to day driving is a unique experience. On the Autobahn one doesn't even need to shift out of 6th it is almost surreal is nothing like the torque curve posted above which is a traditional big turbo motor...
The torque curve above is a massive turboed monster
and I've no doubt will be giving some great drag numbers but it bares little resemblance to what Porsche have done with the VTGs.In fact one can see Porsche's philosophy moving even further in this direction with the new DFI motor, 9.8:1 compression ratio, 3.8 litre, DFI and VTGs, this thing will boost from nothing and it is why (combined with PDK) it can do 0-60mph in 3.1s and 0-125mph in 10.8s with ONLY 500PS !!!

That is incredible. Under 5 seconds is wicked fast, when you guys beat that number the beers are on me! Look forward to the results.

Porsche worked hard to flatten the torque curve and bring peak torque down into the 2XXXrpm range and you guys strap on a pair of massive blowers to give peak torque at 5750rpm ? quite what is the application for this ?

Power delivery is very smooth and linear, it just pulls and pulls and doesn't stop pulling until you shift - then it starts again ... very neat car.

Even so - Tym's cars are quite smooth, and even experienced 997 TT pilots who find themselves passengers in the SLEDGEHAMMER would be hard pressed to predict - based on the "around town" experience - what's going to happen when Tym drops the - er ... hammer.
