TT Coupe vs TT Cab.....or vice versa
Have you gone from one to the other? Did you miss the previous model?
If the 'deal' was sweet enough, and you were a coupe person, would you take a cab?
If the 'deal' was sweet enough, and you were a cab person, would you take a coupe?
Pros/cons welcomed.
Assume car is for street use only. Assume you will keep the car at least 3-4 years. Assume both cars equally equipped/optioned the way you'd like.
Weather is moderate - mild winters, hot July but otherwise cab weather from April to October.
TIA

Any convertible, with the exception of Zondas and other full carbon fiber body cars, will not have the tight, rigid body frame as a hardtop. This rigidity really is important in overall handling and feel of a hi performance car. Steel and/or aluminum cab bodies just have a lot more flex than a car with a solid roof holding the body firmly together.
Is this difference great? Well, on any race track the differences are very obvious unless the convertible has had a full roll cage installed, which would then simulate having a hardtop body.
The more sensitive you are to a car's handling, the more you will notice. But also remember that many of the world's very best F1 drivers and others, choose cabs for their own personal cars. The differences are nothing that they can't live with very happily.

So, to answer the original question; as a coupe guy, yes I would go for the cab under the cited criteria. In fact, this weekend out on a wine tasting trip, I was amazed at the number of cabs that were out. The advances they have made it making a cab livable and coupe-esque are noticeable, and would make me consider a 997 Turbo cab over a coupe, even in Oregon, as a DD. I just think the experience in a 997 Turbo cab would be that much better out in wine country.
Now, how many times did I say cab?

Eric,
Like you I'm a "Cab" guy. I had a TT Coupe once and tried to justify that I wouldn't miss the top-down driving. As soon as the good weather came around, I sold it for a Cab. Nothing against a Coupe - I think they're better looking than the Cab - but don't make the mistake and buy a Coupe for "price" reasons especially if you're planning on keeping the car for 3-4 years. And, if that's the case, find the one the options and color YOU want.

I had a cab (not a tt though) and it was great...but only limited times per year when the top was down...when the weather was not perfect I found the lack of visibility very annoying and I got a TT coupe and I would never go back.
I did buy another convertible for those "perfect" days though...best of both worlds.

imo, I am not a fan of the cab......soft tops don't do it for me.
the 911 Turbo is such an awesomely fast sports car that I feel the cab is watering it down.
but on the other hand, there's really no such thing as a bad Porsche

Coupe...I had an E46 M3 Cab and just never used it...but when I did use it, man was it nice...
I also prefer the lines of the TT Coupe over the Cab...I had originally ordered a 996 TT Cab and then my dealer called me and showed me a TT Coupe they had just got in...took one look and I bought it...I said to myself: "this car was meant to be a coupe"...of course, very subjective.
