The Wait is Over: Bugatti’s $18 Million ‘La Voiture Noire’
Debuted back in March of 2019, Bugatti’s latest is soon to be the most expensive one-off car ever made and is set for release on May 31.
Bugatti‘s 110 year heritage is one of the most coveted in all automotive history. Since their revival at the turn of the century, they have popularized themselves for always going unabashedly next level with their projects, no matter what the cost.
Price has never been a limiting factor for the French powerhouse and “La Voiture Noire” (meaning The Black Car) is no different. Actually, this may be the most expensive individual vehicle ever produced, period.
Coming in at a healthy $18.68 million price tag with only one model to be built, it will truly be a bespoke piece of automotive excellence.
Reminiscence of an icon
For those unfamiliar with the project, this vehicle was created as a modern interpretation of the brand’s stunning Type 57SC Atlantic. The 57SC in its rarity and design without a doubt is one the most special vehicles produced.
Designed by founder Ettore Bugatti’s eldest son back in 1934, only four examples were created. One of the four was mysteriously lost during WWII and still has not been found.
La Voiture Noire really is set to be a vehicle just as if not more special. Bugatti’s design director, Achim Anscheidt, states their intention clearly.
“We produced a true one-off, a single unit car that we call automotive haute couture…It’s not just a car anymore, it’s really more like a piece of art in line with the highly exclusive fashion and luxury brands in France.â€
Although ridiculously capable, this one-off is not meant to be an all-out 200 mph+ speed demon, but rather an expression of Bugatti’s ideological cornerstones: “dynamic, luxury and elegance.”
Individuality: the true form of luxury
While this hyper luxury GT might look like it belongs in a museum and a museum only, that does not mean it can’t walk the walk.
The undeniable six exhaust pipes remind you that a very serious 1,500 HP W16 quad-turbo engine is ready and willing to wind up.
Every aspect of this vehicle is sculpted to perfection as if it was an art piece. One could stare at the details its bespoke carbon fiber body for hours. We appreciate that.
The ultimate grand tourer?
The owner of La Voiture Noire already paid for the car back in 2019. There has been plenty speculation about who the owner may be, but no confirmation from the brand.
However, according to a post on Bugatti’s Instagram, the wait is over. The car will be ready for release in less than two weeks, on May 31th.
