Porsche Reveals 2020 Macan Turbo Details
For 2020, the engine found in Porsche’s Macan Turbo gets smaller, but it makes more power.
Porsche has released information about the upcoming 2020 Macan Turbo. From what we can see, these details look tantalizing, and represent a considerable jump in performance.
Porsche redesigned the Macan in 2019, skipping a model year for the Macan Turbo. The new and improved Macan Trubo will debut later this year as a 2020 model.
Bigger isn’t always better, as evidenced by Porsche’s decision to downsize the Macan Turbo’s engine. The 2018 Macan Turbo’s 3.6 liter twin turbo V6 gives way to a 2.9 liter twin turbo V6, the same engine found in the Cayenne S.
The new engine is good for 434 horsepower from 5,700 RPM to 6,600 RPM. Torque peaks at 405 lb/ft from 1,800 RPM to 5,600 RPM. That’s a substantial jump from the 2018 model, which produced 400 horsepower. Torque remains more or less the same.
Still, a 34 horsepower bump is nothing to sneeze at, and the resultant times speak for themselves. Zero to 60 times have dropped 0.3 seconds on both the standard Macan Turbo and models equipped with the Sport Chrono package.
The 2020 Macan Turbo sprints to 60 in just 4.3 seconds; 4.1 when equipped with Sport Chrono. The 2018 Macan Turbo was good for 4.6 seconds, or 4.3 seconds when equipped with Sport Chrono.
Top speed has increased as well. Top speed is now listed at 167 miles per hour, a 3 mile per hour bump from the 2018 model.
The other big news for the 2020 Macan Turbo is a factory brake upgrade. All 2020 Macan Turbos will come outfitted with PSCB, or Porsche Surface Coated Brakes. Originally debuting on the third generation Macan, the technology involves a coating of tungsten carbide on the brake rotors.
The result is not only better braking, but less brake dust as well. Additionally, the pads eventually buff the rotors to a mirror-like finish, resulting in an aesthetic improvement in addition to PSCB’s performance benefits.
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Sport Exhaust become standard equipment for 2020. The wheels are also upgraded, with 20″ wheels becoming standard. They’ve gained an inch in diameter over the 2018 Macan Turbo’s standard wheels. Options include height-adjustable suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB).
Inside, standard equipment includes 18-way power adjustable sport seats, a 14 speaker Bose stereo, and an alcantara headliner. Like the other Macan models, the 2020 Macan Turbo also gets a 10.9″ touchscreen. Starting MSRP for the 2020 Macan Turbo will be $83,600, not including delivery or processing fees.
