Nixon watches?

Never bought a watch before. And I saw this one in all black:

The Chronicle SS | Men's Watches | Nixon Watches and Premium Accessories

Watchiphiles, would I be making a mistake for getting this watch?

I have a similar watch (from Nixon), I love it. I'm sure some won't, but then again it's your watch, it's for you not for someone else. If you like it, buy it

It won't. Their watches are pretty decent IMHO, even though I wouldn't really wear one anymore. I would much rather have a Lum-Tec on my wrist for the $$... I would say no, but that's just my $0.02.

Based on my experiences it's not going to fall apart, mine is in one piece after numerous snowboarding trips/wipeouts. Actually it damages things than it bumps into.. it's definitely the heaviest watch that I own.

Since you are not into watches, go to the watch store and try some on. Brand not as important as size. That watch is HUGE at 48.25 mm. It's hard to tell from the picture. For reference my daily watch is a 42mm.

I've had my Nixon for a couple of years and it works great. They are sturdy watches, with a very solid build quality. I would definitely recommend it.

I've had a couple Nixons over the years. The first one I had was great. Wore it every day for 2 or 3 years and it could take a beating without flinching. The second Nixon I bought kept time well for about 6 months and then just went to hell and stopped working despite having a new battery and everything. Haven't bought another Nixon since but they certainly make decent looking, reasonably priced watches.
