First of all, I really dig DJ Quick's stuff all the way back to the beginning. The way he flows over the live band is legit, in this House of Blues concert! Check it!

the 2nd Digable Planets album - one of the all-time greats.
i also like the japanese band United Future Organization - not quite hip hop per se, but they do have beats.
