New to shooting-- looking to purchase

For sure go to a local range and try out as many as you can.
Something not that common (in the US) but very respected is the Czech made CZ75 SP-01 Shadow. It's a target 9mm, and its really accurate and easy to use. It also has an underslung 1913 rail - for mounting a flashlight / laser if so desired.

Ultimately you need to choose the gun that's right for you, and until you fire a selection you won't really know. Don't rush into things though, take your time and buy the right one.
