Now before you all jump down my neck on this I need to point out that I have painted show winning cars for over 25 years, some of which have required 30 coats of paint due to their complexity. None has required this length of time and I suspect this paint job will be no where near as complex either.

I have spent a great deal of time around Eggs and have always complemented them on the quality of the paint; they are one of the better ones in the industry, but not 1000 hours worth.

If someone from Koenigsegg would like to put me straight I would be very happy to listen and be correct
I've spoken to Koenigsegg for you and this is a direct quote:

"From 2013 onwards we have an average of 650 man hours for the paint job and another 3-600 hours on polishing.

There are 9 big panels that are painted, included in the paint job is:

Preparation, graphics(stripes etc )colour/tint, wet sanding, blocking and preparation between clear coat layers. On average this is 650 Hours.

On polishing we spend another 3-600 hours until we are happy. So the average time spent is between 950 - 1250 hours."

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for taking the time to ask. I must have been doing this painting lark wrong for all these years

Anyway I look forward hopefully to geting a chance to examine the completed car in the near future. Good luck with the project

Ignore streetrod, he's the resident Koenigsegg hater/Pagani fanboy and have spent well over 1000 man hours spreading lies and slandering the brand on PH and teamspeed and wont hesitate to do the same here. Which is bizarre given Pagani's (and not Koenigsegg's) rich history of dubious stuff, but oh well...

This simple one layer wet sanding with primarily machines on flat surfaces and only the body panels took three guys 40 hours or 120 man hours in total and cost north of $10000.

Add all the masking, layers, complex surfaces that has to be wet sanded by hand grit by grit as well as the monocell and numerous smaller pieces that also has to be clear coated and wet sanded by hand. If something as simple as that job takes 120 man hours then it's more than reasonable to assume Koenigsegg's paint job eats up much more time.

And here's an actual 1000 hour quote from "How To Paint Your Show Car" by Stefan Gesterkamp, an authority on the subject.

Stefan Gesterkamp is a Master Craftsman and BASF representative who has been in the automotive paint industry for 27 years. He started his career in a custom shop before turning to collision repair. Stefan graduated from the University of Coatings and Colorants in Germany and is the author of “How to Paint Your Show Car.”

Our One:1 Build to Delivery Update

Now for a really exciting update involving the engine.

Build of the engine will start shortly. Koenigsegg have the block back from casting and have completed the machining & putting in the cylinder lining.
You can also see in the pictures the Koenigsegg titanium conrod and the teflon & ceramic coated piston that will go into the engine. The build process is about 4 weeks for one man, and will start in about a week, so more info will come later.

I don't think in these kinds of cases when someone quotes a total "man-hours" that you can take that to mean it's one guy. Doubtless a team of men pore over every detail for as long as it takes. Add up all their time invested, and there's your answer.

It's like when a car dealership says their sales team has over 70 combined years of experience in the business or whatever.

Anyway, that piston and connecting rod are sheer automotive porn.

Thanks for the updates!

Good grief elhimiel you really are a first rate idiot/bore! I asked a simple question as an experienced painter and the OP kindly took the time to find out the answer and post back, for which I am grateful.

Yes I have been critical about some of Koenigseggs early cars but have been equally full of praise for the cars they have produced in the last few years.

I have driven a Koenigsegg, have you?? Therefore my comments come from first hand exp. If you had bothered to do your research you will also find I have criticised Pagani in the past as well.

I had a lively debate with Matt33 on the Pagani Top Gear incident. When he produced solid evidence I was happy to back down and concede he was right.

So get off your hobby horse and grow the hell up, it’s just getting boring now.

To the OP and just in case some on here did not get it from my earlier posts, this looks like a “GREAT” project. And being UK based I hope to get a chance to see it in the near future. Good luck

I realised that Matt, but one man or many men, the total hours spent are likely to be the same to get the same result.

My background is in custom paintwork. I have never really done standard stuff. I am used to using candies, pearls, metallics etc and building up complex paint jobs layer by layer. Plus all the obvious sanding in-between. I think my longest job took 3 months working on it every day which is why I asked the question in the first place.

I hope that explains where I was coming from with my question
