Qatar Aiming For 2018 World Cup
The oil-rich West Asian nation is likely to throw its hat into the ring and is confident that it has what it takes to do the job.
As FIFA will announce the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups at the same time, Qatar would be in the running for both.
The Qatar FA will decide early in 2009.
"We are interested and we believe we can successfully host such a prestigious event as the World Cup finals," Saud Al Mohannadi, secretary-general of the QFA told Reuters.
"We have the stadiums and we have experience hosting top sports events. We don't want to rush into anything, we need to find out what the full requirements are, but we are interested."
Qatar will host the 2011 Asian Cup and is already staging other important international sporting events.
England, United States, Spain and Portugal, Mexico, Australia, Japan and China could also be in the running for 2018.
