New boat owner. Is this a Cigarette?
Hello,
I recently purchased this boat. I was told this is a Cigarette 28SS. I've also heard this is a Cigarette Awesome/Mistress. I have no idea what year it is as I have to apply for a title. It appears to have twin 360 engines and TRS drives. Can someone tell me if this is a true Cigarette SS and if so, what year? The engines do run and the interior needs work. I love the lines of the boat and would love to know what it is. It has Cigarette Racing Team all over it.
Thanks,
Tiffany

Dare I ask how much you paid for it?
The hull ID # will tell you for sure but it looks like a '72 or '74.
You've got a LOT of work in front of you!

I bought it from a boat dealer for $1200. Guy died and abandoned the boat. I paid the storage fees. I figure the trailer alone is worth that. Also, it says Chrysler Marine on the transom assembly. I'll have to look at the vin.

I went out to take more photos. I don't think the vin is going to help any. Looks like someone sanded the original hull vin and stamped a metal plate. The metal plate numbers have this: Cenh14482. According to online you have to have 12 digits.

Those are not TRS drives, Chryslers. That puts it in the mid to late 1960's. That helm and Morse control configuration was also mid-1960's.
The dealer should have paid you to take it. Your project has to be one of love. You will never recover a dime unless you work with surplus gifts of used gear and value your labor at zero. That said, you will learn a lot and can have some fun.

Not A Cigarette
100% percent positive this is not a Cigarette Racing Team boat. They never used those engines and outdrives on the 28's. They never displayed the hull identification number(HIN)in that way. The 28's had a very distinct raised knuckle-line in the upper edge of the hull sides, which this boat does not have. As well as many other differences. This was one of the most common hull pops, or copies, in the 70's & 80's. As many as 40 or more different small warehouse boat companies copied the 28 alone.
