Skater are built with glass and balsa wood. Some of the newer ones use carbon in the capsule. Here lies the problem. They basically build the boat and glue the capsule on. Also they are not reinforced. That is also why they have delam issues. Mystic power boats uses a foam core instead of balsa and in infused where Skater is glued. Usually in a "back stuff" the cockpit comes apart and shards of carbon stab the back of the passengers. Skater made its reputation by a cheap light boat.

Actually they are cheap for a cat. Price out a new Skater, then price out a outerlimits, Mti, or Mystic. Let's talk about it then.

 

Price of a new Mystic is 3x that for the hull only, add a $100k trailer to get the boat out of the yard then start rigging it.

What do you think is under the glass on for stringers and bulkheads. That's Skaters claim to fame. Light cheap boats.

IMO the only well engineered boat they built was the Tencara/Platinum. Platinum farmed it out to them. Michael Peters designed the boat. If I'm not mistaken Mark bishop engineered the hull.

 

But then again.. what do I know.. only have been playing with turbine powered race boats for the last 5 years of my life....
