The original owner would have been primarily responsible for the low mileage - he kept the car from new until 2010/2011. The two who have owned it since are collectors who each have at least one other F1 to drive so it is not terribly surprising that it didn't see any additional use.

It was in Japan from new until 2010. Then spent a couple of years with a collector in Chicago before moving on to a collection in the UK for the past year or so. The second and third owners are major McLaren collectors.

Ah so this was the one on display at Lake Forest Supercars. I never came across any pictures of it in the UK. Do you know what amount it traded hands for when the UK buyer purchased it? I'm curious how it stacks up against the auction estimate.

Yes, the Chicago owner allowed LFSC to display it during their Grand Opening party, then it went swiftly back to his garage.
No idea what it changed hands for value-wise. I was told it was traded for something great - not sure what or whether there was also cash involved in the deal. Here's some of the other cars in his collection.
I don't think it would have ever left the garage while in the UK - no point when the owner had three other F1s to drive should he want to.
