Ring Music: Hear the New M3 Saloon Roar

Our spies have spotted once again, the upcoming BMW M3 looking close to production ready, flogging about on the famous Nurburgring. This is the best we have heard the new super-fast saloon sounding, and if the production exhaust setup sounds anything close to this, the aftermarket tuners are going to really have to step up their game.

Look closely and you'll notice this prototype is wearing the same M Carbon Ceramic Brakes as the M4 we spotted a week or so back.

Last year Dr Friedrich Nitschke, managing director of M GmbH. Dr. Nitschke, mentioned the next-generation M3 would have a "bigger focus on very low fuel consumption." In fact it's been rumored the F80 M3 will be up to 20% more efficient then it's predecessor.

Under the hood, the all-new S55 engine is expected to be an inline 6 cylinder with a tri-turbo setup, putting down a good amount more torque and hp then the outgoing M3.

Stay tuned for more!

Sounds good. Let's just hope they let that engine sound into the cabin, instead of piping it through the speakers...

Is it just me or does it sound more like a Porsche now?

Yeah, at the lower end it really does sound similar to a flat 6; to me like a very refined air cooled rendition. But then again it also sounds a lot like any other BMW inline 6 does. Sounds really good to me, and it also sounds like the one mule has a manual transmission.

Really? To my ears it doesn't sound particularly good...being a turbo engine it could be worse but still...

I really hope the new m3 doesn't get lost in the sea of faceless bmws. Judging by that sound, it looks they are going down the softer mainstream path.

Great! Love the sound -- thanks for sharing. Just hope they put this badboy on a strict diet. Too many newer BMWs (especially Ms)have become very heavy!

Sounds really nice. I like it better than the e90/92.
