Hey Doc, that is one sweet 3!! Here is a picture of mine. It was the last E38 to be shipped to America, verified by the VIN. April 2001 build date:

Well from what I've been told that V10 was really designed with the 7-speed SMG in mind and the 6-speed manual doesn't quite feel right. I'm anxious to see what the new M-DCT is going to feel like in the E92 M3.

You're right about that. The 7 speed with its close gear ratios is optimum. I love the car. It's my 2nd E60 M5 I like it so much.
