Post Preview Comparison: BMW 1 Series M Coupe vs. Audi RS3

The new BMW 1 Series M Coupe is yet to be fully revealed, but automotive magazines have already begun to compare it against its potential competitors. First in line, and yet to be unveiled as well, it’s the next generation Audi RS3. Sporting a hatch design rather than the coupe look on the 1 Series M, the RS3 shares the same platform as the TT RS. The super-sporty hatch differentiates itself from the current Audi A3 by having are the larger air intakes on the modified front bumper, a lower stance and massive brakes front and rear.

But what lies beneath the hood is what interests many of the Audi fans, and not only. While the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is rumored to produce between 340-350 horsepower from either the N54 or N55 turbocharged engines, the RS3 is rumored to be fitted with the same 2.5 liter, 5-cylinder turbocharged engine as in the TT RS model. That engine produces 340 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe’s engine is matted to a six-speed manual transmission, while the next RS3 will use either a six-speed manual or S Tronic dual-clutch gearbox.

Another fundamental difference between the entry-level super-sporty cars is the QUATTRO system versus the rear-wheel drive philosophy in the 1 Series M Coupe. The RS3 delivers power to all four wheels with a 40:60 front-to-rear torque split.

Design wise, both cars are only being compared at the moment based on artist’s renderings which had the recent spy and teaser photos as a starting point. The fellows over at TopSpeed give us a glance a what we might see next year when both vehicle make their debut.

I don't know why, but these cars appeal to me. I think they would be great in town commuters.

Audi all the way, they are best looking cars in the German market, exterior, interior, kick ass sound system, wheels they just need them to be lighter. I'd love to see the RS6 rims on it.
