I feel like the 918 will be faster on shorter tighter tracks. Would be interesting to see them go head-to-head at a track like Spa or similar.

agree, could be faster on Formula 1 tracks,
but watching this, would be nice to see some kind of video for McLarens claim: under 7 min for Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Marc Lieb set 918 Weissach Lap Time 6:57 and he can race Nordschleife in his sleep.

Exactly!

Seen amusing Aprils Fools' day prank, but an interesting point was mentioned. The battery capacity. The 918 capacity of the battery is three times higher than P1 (10 km electric drive vs. 30 km) and McLaren have not included kinetic energy regeneration (recuperation). The 918 battery capacity was chosen for about 20 km racing (voila: Nordschleife 20,832 km) and have energy recuperation function too. It is not unlikely, P1 loose his electric 179 HP after half of the Nürburgring Nordschleife track. So, question is, how likely is McLaren's claim to have achieved their objective of 'A time significantly below 7 minutes' Nürburgring lap time?
It appears as if P1 is developed for high speed (race tracks) - there P1 win. Acc. to McLaren ‘The priority was high-speed performance matched with tremendous composure, which would come mostly from the state-of-the-art aerodynamics.'
Steve Sutcliffe : 'The Porsche also feels more linear than the P1, less on-off if you will, and that’s basically the difference between the P1 having a smaller capacity twin-turbo engine whereas the others are normally aspirated and bigger in capacity.' <-- Main problem for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca?

McLaren have finally published the long awaited Ring record for the P1 supercar.
* Happy Aprils Fools' day! This article is completely bogus. (article was published on April 1st of 2015)
McLaren have been testing P1 at Nurburgring Nordshcleife since late 2013, but no official record has been published. Until today.
Have McLaren delivered on promise to lap the "Green Hell" in under 7 minutes and have they beaten Porsche 918 record of 6 minutes and 57 seconds?
The short answer to both of these questions is "no" and a "no". In a brief press release published today, McLaren state that the best time so far achieved in factory testing, is a very disappointing 7 minutes and 12 seconds. This makes it immediately obvious, why it took over a year for any official time from McLaren.
P1 skeptics have long speculated that the smaller KERS battery would not be enough for a 20 km track like Nordschleife. This theory has been confirmed in recent interview by Autobild, where McLaren chief test driver Chris Goodwin, candidly admits that the P1 ran out of "electricity" before completing a flying lap:
"I think it was not a wrong decision. Smaller battery meant we could hit out weight target, and less weight is always better. Unless you have to complete a 20 kilometer out-lap. On a track like this our weight savings really bite us."
Perhaps more shockingly, Goodwin further admits that P1 had trouble hitting speed targets set by a 650S:
"After completing one lap, the lack of electric thrust was noticeable. In Flugplatz and Schwedenkreiz we were barely faster than a 650S. But don't get me wrong, 650S is a fast car."
There is no doubt that McLaren die-hards will be deeply disappointed with the news, but we have to congratulate McLaren for being honest and open in releasing information which is likely to have negative effect on their reputation or even sales of the upcoming McLaren 570S, which will be in direct competition with Porsche in the more affordable "911" segment.

^agree, faster on tighter tracks, such as the Nürburgring Nordschleife, technical facts very clearly speak for 918:
................................... Laguna Seca .... Castle Combe .... Nordschleife
918 Weissach Package ...... 1:29.89 .......... 1:12.40 ............ 6:57
McLaren P1 ..................... 1:30.71 .......... 1:12.60 ............ ?:??

- Driver influence, race track knowledge (specifically for Nordschleife lap time)
.. Three drivers tried to achieve the record lap at the same day with the same car:
.. 6:57 Marc Lieb (24h Nürburgring Nordschleife Manthey 911 GT3 RSR: First Marc Lieb 2011 2009 2008 2007 / 7. 2013 [6:55 2013 Qualif. lap time {rel. Nordschleife}])
.. 7:01 Timo Kluck
.. 7:04 Walter Röhrl
- Battery capacity ........................ ~7km racing .............. >20km racing (kinetic energy regeneration [recuperation])
- Traction out of slow corners ............. RWD .............................4WD
- Throttle pedal (engine) response ....... on-off ........................ more linear
- Rear axle steering....................... passive reaction .......... active four-wheel steer system

The situation turns on high speed tracks, such as Formula One.
*Auto-Motor-Sport Comparison Test: Porsche 918 Spyder vs McLaren P1 at Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit
918 Weissach Package ....... ~1:48.50
McLaren P1 ................. just a little faster (didn't tell how much)

On Autodromo Nazionale Monza, P1 should be clear faster - race average 240 km/h / 150 mph - 5,793 km / 3,60 miles.

Michael Schumacher has set Fiorano lap time of 0:56.33 with his 6th title car Ferrari F2003.GA.
Fernando Alonso has set Fiorano lap time of 1:20.30 with the LaFerrari.

Marc Gene has set Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca lap time of 1:05.78 with Michael Schumachers 6th title car Ferrari F2003.GA.

Calculation result: Michael Schumacher would have been 2 seconds faster on Laguna Seca track in 1:03.77.
Any LaFerrari calculation results are showing no lap times below 1:30.89.

It would be nice to see Ferrari compete head to head and show that they can do it better.
