Exclusive Details - 918 Weissach Package

Hey guys, came across these details of the Weissach Package and thought you would enjoy it!

Porsche has finalized the specs of the Weissach Package for the 918 supercar and it features overwhelming attention to detail offering a significantly lighter, nearly completely different version of the limited vehicle resulting in a 2 second drop in track time. This edition of the 918 will offer purists and race fanatics an opportunity to purchase a faster, leaner supercar. Here’s how Porsche did it:

Weight
77 lbs – The total reduction in weight Porsche has achieved through lightweight construction measures encompassing nearly ever aspect of the car.

Materials
Magnesium, carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), titanium and ceramics have been used to achieve the lighter weight. These measures will result in a reduction in comfort and daily usability, but will easily satisfy the purist and race enthusiast. The increased use of visible carbon fiber and Alcantara will also give the supercar a different look from that of the base model. Increased visible carbon fiber on the exterior including the windshield frame, roof, rear wing and exterior mirrors offer a different look while reducing weight.

Foil Wrap
Gone is the paint, and to replace it is a foil wrap currently in development. Reducing the weight by approximately 5 lbs includes a few trade-off’s. The vehicles cut edges and folds can be seen when looking close and the foil will much much less resistant to the elements. The initial results of foil tests have been positive, but the wrap has not been finally confirmed.
The foil wrap will be available in both Salzburg and Martini Racing Design. Porsche will also offer an option where the wrap is available on a painted vehicle, allowing the look to be changed at a later time and addressing any durability questions a buyer may have.

Wheels
The 918 Spyder will feature magnesium wheels standard with the Weissach package. This exclusive attribute results in a weight reduction of over 30 pounds per vehicle and powers unsprung mass (rotatory and translational). The wheels design is based on the motorsport-tested wheels of the RS Spyder. The central nuts of the wheels will be red (right thread) on the left side of the vehicle and anodized blue (left thread) on the right side of the vehicle.
