Report: Manual Transmission to be standard in 2013 911 GT3, PDK Possible Option

Teamspeed has learned from a very close source that the new 991 GT3 will come standard in manual transmission. All those holding their breath due to previous reports of Porsche offering the next generation GT3 in PDK only, can now take a deep breath and relax, at least we are 99% sure you can.

Power is expected to be at least 450 horsepower and as mentioned earlier, August Achleitner, the 911 project chief, confirmed that Porsche's motorsport division is currently testing both manual and PDK versions of the new GT3.

That report did make us rather nervous though, noting that only one transmission will ultimately be offered for sale, with Achleitner hinting PDK is the favorite to get the nod, but we now learn that the GT3 will come in manual with PDK being optional.

If Porsche goes to ALL PDK down the road i will become a Corvette guy......but for now, with the stick still offered i am still a fan

 

^^I'm with Jon...well, maybe not the Corvette thing.
Even with all the forum uproar, I can guarantee you that GT3 sales will be up and the vast majority will opt for the PDK trans. Why? Every wank that can't drive a manual trans will finally be able to get a GT car.

As do I. I saw an RS 4.0 over the weekend and it wouldn't have been the same to see it having an automatic transmission. The GT3 offering PDK wouldn't be as much of an upset as the new RS offering it. As long as the RS has it I will be satisfied.

 

Sounds good, but was hoping for more than 450 hp's, unless it's lighter than the current GT3.

 

I can't say I am surprised. I'm not saying it's not likely they will all be PDK down the road sometime, but I really doubted they would start this time around. While it may be true that many still will buy PDK, there are plenty of manual customers out there to make it worthwhile.
