Our Teamspeed spies have been rather busy today and here they send us new shots that reveal the new Mercedes-Benz BLS 4-door sedan/coupe, a baby-CLS, based on the next-generation A-class and due in 2013/2014. The prototype we see here is dressed in a heavy plastic camouflage but we can make out the basic contours of this compact sedan/coupe.
The car was believed to be named the CLA but recent sources tell us this will be called the BLS. The new model will be front-wheel drive and based on the MFA platform shared with the upcoming next-generation A-class and B-class models.
As this is basically an A-class hatch, engine options will be shared with that sister model and include a 2.0-litre with 200 hp and a 2.2-litre diesel with 170 hp. No word yet on an AMG variant but the way Mercedes has been diluting that iconic badging we expect to see one.
