Instrument clusters, new or old school?

I was thinking out of curiosity this weekend. With all the new TFT screens that are being used to display your tachometer, speedometer etc, in modern day vehicles such as the Mercedes S-class, Aventador. What are your opinions about it?

I personally don't mind if it is a daily driver that has such a display, but I do prefer the analogue gauges in the more sportier and exotic automobiles. It just feels more real and more involvement. Perhaps I'm just out of my mind?

In any event, would love to see the outcome of the poll.

I dont mind the S-class its not too brash such as the Full Size Range Rover which I still didnt get used to. I personally prefer the old school gauges and not the new TFT Screens because the TFT screens are durable in the heat (50 degrees c) weather as the normal gauges.

I dont like the whole tech screen in the speedo of the aventador I feel its too "arcade" like for a supercar and its very lexus LFA like.

I think Pagani got it right with their new Supercar, it's a perfect balance of technology and craftsmanship. The aventador feels too german in the inside in regards to the interior finish and too many electronics, I know it is owned by VW group but needs a look at the Pagani perfect balance.

I like all the gizmos in a DD but feel that they are out of place in sports cars...
Then again sports cars are moving in directions that analog instrument dials just cannot keep up

I totally forgot the new Range Rover also had a full TFT display.

I agree, about the Aventador feeling too arcade in that aspect. I was happy to see Ferrari, McLaren kept the tachometer analogue.

Agreed, the Huayra on the interior is a perfection infusion of the two.

So glad we all think alike!

I understand that analogue has it's limitations in terms of instantaneous feedback, but will we be able to process the information, if it is much faster? I don't see the point in that aspect. It's like trying to watch 3 TV's at once. We can only perceive so much. Or maybe I'm just slow

I personally like Gizmo's in a saloon/sedan, however in the sportscar/supercar their is a standard that I think is generally acceptable such as navigation, rear parking sensors and ipod kit. However there are options that you might not need and lets take the 458 italia as an example, I think a rear view camera is a bit silly considering the size of the car.

I agree with craigger. The all digital displays date themselves and will become flawed with age.

I thought I'm the only one finding analogue gauges way way better than the digital ones. The digital tacho and speedometer of the aventador is the only thing I really hate about the car.
