Best garage door for salt water?

Need some advice...

My parents have a house right on the beach and saltwater/rust is a huge issue.

Anything steel/metal seems to rust. New BBQ every single summer...

Now they're realized the garage door needs to be replaced or at least sanded/painted every 3 years or so...

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar problem, and what's the best route?

Is it generally cheaper to keep sanding/painting, or is there a better option?

Thinking about fiberglass or vinyl doors... One person told me fiberglass is the solution, but when I spoke to someone else about it, they told me its drastically more expensive, and though you wont ever have to repaint or sand it, you will have to have it re-coated with a protective finish every 2-3 years...

THX!

I went with Haas doors (fiberglass and a high R-rating). I don't have exposure to salt water but they are holding up great and the price was very reasonable.

I had the same problem, I just switched them out for Teak doors that open out...

Some sort of composite door would fix this issue.

That's what I was thinking. I bet aluminum doors are out there. If they can make siding out of the stuff, why not garage doors too?

Aluminium still oxidizes, So it would fall apart eventually.. The only option would be to use stainless steel, but the cost would be substantial...

I doubt anyone is using stainless. At least aluminum will last much longer then steel.

Wow, very few homes could probably pull that stainless look off. It would have to be very modern.

While I am not fortunate enough to have an oceanfront property, I had a fiberglass door put in 2 years ago and it still holds up pretty nicely, being only 5 miles from the ocean and all
