Local dimming LED TV 2011
Samsung continues to disappoint by again NOT having a local dimming TV to succeed as the 4th generation from the line of 81F, 950A, and 8500.
I don't know what their problem is, some of us are happy to pay the premium, just make one for crying out loud. You only came out with the first one on the market.
SONY on the other hand, after the long absence of XBR8, came back swinging with the XBR-HX929. Super thin, local dimming, and 3D.

Nah, I love this technology, and I am just like WTF, why is Samsung still not coming out with the 4th gen replacement?
Though I am glad that SONY finally brought out the successor to the XBR8.

XVT3D650SV is edgelit, which is what you want to avoid.
Companies do edgelit to SAVE MONEY. Backlit requires lots of LED elements placed right behind the screen.
But for the $$$ that they are charging, you should find a backlit version. If the SONY is too pricey (which it probably will be), LG's are fine, and they have also been making backlit local dimming for a while.

I got him for you
We are really enjoying our Samsung, but I will say this..huge difference over the Plasma and sometimes the soap opera quality bugs me. It can't be beat for underwater scenes, though! Put in Oceans and was blown away.

That soap opera quality has always bugged me about LCDs. I have yet to see one that doesn't do that. I don't believe i've seen a local dimming set yet though.
