Budget is $600-$1000. I have no problem buying second hand if its been taken care of. Am I being realistic with that budget?

I've always liked Denon. But I've been out of the HT loop for a few years...

With the way h20skier talks about his wife, I'd get one of those.

You are seriously going to get me into some shit today. I've laughed loudly at at least three of your postings today. One of my guys was walking by my office and goes, "you have to be reading something extremely funny because you've got the biggest shit eating grin on your face."

Onkyo makes a good receiver in that price range.

Adcom makes good, solid stuff. Might be out of the price range unless you can find second-hand. I have a GFR700HD and I love it. Just double check your HDMI compatibility first if you plan to use the switching feature (eg. Samsung is out, since they use some slightly off-beat HDMI guidelines). I bet you could find and GFR700 or 700HD in the $1000 range used nowadays.

If that is all that you are willing to spend, you should buy used from audiogon.

Seriously.

I had a good budget when I put my system together. But if I had known about Audiogon, I would not have hesitated to buy stuff used there and get more bang for my buck.
