Any Audiophiles here?

I'm looking to start my own system, but to tell you the truth i'm so lost and have no idea what to get or even where to begin because of all the products out there, its really overwhelming.

What i want is a system thats plays music VERY well, but also have the ability to play movies and PS3, but music is the priority. I've been pointed to HTIBs but thats not what i'm looking for, i want something that will allow to me to hear things i never heard before but also at a good price (looking to spend 2-3k max). can someone please help me out? it would be really appreciated

For a 2-3k budget, head down to your local best buy and check out what they have.

oh i appreciate the insightful help lmao... i was told you didnt have to shell out +10k to get amazing sound, but im guess now thats not true?

i'll see how much more i could pull but im really limited to 5k due to the fact that i just started college and dont really have time for a job... i was planning on getting a new TV as well but i can stay with the one i have now.

1k for a receiver, 1k for speakers, 300 for a dvd/cd player, 200 for misc cables, etc. Sorry, but in that range your best bet is going down to best buy???

5k would be slightly different. You can get into some entry level Arcam electronics, B&W speakers. You really have to go out and listen for yourself.

For $3k, you should check out a set of used Paradigm Signature speakers, a used Denon receiver and a used PS3. And when I mean set of speakers, I mean 2.

Can you give us a few details about the room that you'll be setting everything up in? Dimensions, materials used in it, furniture setups, etc.?

P.S. - My advice is to say "forget it" and walk away; the 'audiophilia' phenomenon is considered to be, along with car care, a prime cause of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
