Moe,

I drive my car (black) for the most part, every day. Now I'll wash it about 4 times a week due to black being a pain in the butt to keep clean. I feel as if me washing it that much will begin to show signs of wear over time. What detailing methods should I begin to follow to try and keep the paint as clean/shiny as possible, and what methods of quick detailing should I follow?

Thanks.

I'm going to be spending some time detailing my car this weekend. I haven't had a chance ever since last fall. I was wondering if you would improve on my plan.

1. Wash the car
2. clay bar
3. wash again
4. polish and buff
5. wax and buff

I'm using Meguiars for most of the applications and an orbital buffer for the polishing/waxing. Any recommendations? Any recommendation for the tires?

Oh one more thing if possible. I drive a Lexus IS and the dash board is made of a rough material. I'm worried if I spray a detailer spray the white chemical will go into the dips in the dash and I will not be able to clean it out. Any recommendations for that?

What is the proper way to use a quick detailer?

Only after a wash, or can you use it to get a small amount of surface dust off the car?

How long does a clay bar last? On average? Just one time claying, or multiple?

Great thread!!!

My initial, question:

What is the "basic" kit that one should have to best care for ones car, inside and out?

I see that you use 3M tape around the edges to prevent the paint. How do you detail these areas after you take off the tapes?

thanks
