I currently have some oakley gascans, and von zipper all days.

I can see how the Wayfarers are getting played out.

SoCal is an unknown quantity at this point
I also have some RayBan all-black aviators that are pretty sweet. I see a lot less people wearing them than the Wayfarers, so I went with them.

(potential sterotyping here)
The thing about Oakleys, is that so many fat middle aged men who aren't cool wear them, that they now have that image. Basically a fat middle manager who dresses badly loves Oakleys.

Ray Bans and other high end manufacturers are the 'cooler' shades, but basically, its free choice.

Some people pull of Oakleys really well.

(I'm assuming you mean you want shades for general wear, not sports or a specific purpose)

You cannot go wrong with anything made by Persol. I have 5 pairs now and love all of them.

I've got 3 pairs of the Tag Curves for my sporting boating and track driving. Dana good choice they rock for this. the High mountain lense is the best for my crazy sensitive eyes

Kaenon Spindle's are the one's I like the most for just hanging out. Not the darkest lense but look good.

2 pair of Revo Thrive's identical that I drive around town in and need 4 pair's because I can never remember which car they are in. Good lense. Dark which I need

I think I'm going to buy some Persol 714's this summer.

Currently wearing Randolph Engineering aviators. High quality, classic design, and you can spec them exactly how you want. Plus, they supply some military personnel, which is cool.

Check 'em out:

Randolph Engineering :: Aviator Sunglasses, Ranger Shooting Eyewear, Prescription Frames, Military Direct, and Accessories

Those Randolphs look nice. I've also got a pair of Bugatti EB's that the wife hates. With 9 other pairs about 80ft of water in front of my house of various other sunglasses that took the plunge over the last 8 years
