An AR is a semi auto, right? As far as I know, semi automatics are illegal for civilians, and handguns/rifles/shotguns are only permitted for hunting and target shooting. Self defense isn't reason enough to get a permit.

Ar 15's are restricted not prohibited. You need a special permit but they are legal

Things considered to be AR's need a special permit. Shotguns and rifles can be possessed with a standard license even if you don't hunt/shoot. It's if you use them for self defense where you get in trouble.

Is that on a provincial level? Because as far as I know it's not like that in BC. I only know one person who has a gun, and he's a hunter. Maybe no one else (that I know) has even tried/wanted to get one, but going by that it seems like it's different.

Gmac, sorry, this isn't exactly in my field :P.

No problem sutler. I thought they well prohibited but a friend recently informed me that it is legal you just need to apply for a restricted license the same if you want a handgun
