2012 Porsche Boxster S Black Edition

The 2012 Black Edition, a special edition model that is limited to only 987 units to be produced worldwide and is also the model code for the current Boxster. Like the 911 Black Edition, this limited-edition Boxster has a lot of extra equipment included standard. The Black Edition has a $6,600 higher base price than a standard Boxster S, but it comes with a lot of extra equipment standard including PCM with Navigation, a Bose Surround Sound, Xenon Headlights and few other extras. A Boxster S configured the same way, is actually several thousand dollars more than an identically spec'd Boxster Black Edition, so there is a lot of value in that. Both the Boxster S Black Edition and the Boxster Spyder have been bumped up to 320 horsepower over the the standard Boxster S which comes in at 320 horsepower.

2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder

When the construction of the Boxster Spyder began, Porsche designers set out creating a distinctive design while also saving weight. pulling out a claimed 176 pounds. Ditching the conventional convertible-top mechanism was the first step. In its place sits a 13-pound, manually operated, two-piece cover. In addition to the lightweight top, Porsche employed a slew of weight saving techniques including the same door pulls that are in the GT3 RS. Aluminum doors from the911 Turbo and GT3 shave 33 pounds, and the Spyder specific 19-inch wheels are actually lighter than the Boxster S’s 18s. The gas tank on the Spyder has been reduced in capacity by 2.6 gallons to 14.3 gallons. All together, the Boxster Spyder has a 176 pound weight reduction over the standard Boxster. The most attractive part of the Spyder is the one-piece aluminum decklid with two aero humps like those found on the Carrera GT. The LED running lamps are smaller, the side scoops are in black mesh, and the standard exhaust is now finished in black like the Black Edition. Porsche says its engineers improved the aerodynamics of the Spyder through a modified front lip and fixed rear spoiler.
