Official: S63 AMG

Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the 2014 S63 AMG, following an official teaser and an accidental leak.

Set for a public debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new model comes with the typical AMG tweaks in terms of styling, such as the more aggressive bumpers, beefier side sills, larger 19-inch alloy wheels and a quad exhaust setup which all provide the car with a meaner look but it still looks more tamed than it should.

Its heart and soul is an updated Euro 6-compliant twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter engine delivering 585 bhp (436 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). The direct-injected gasoline engine has Piezo injectors and an all-aluminum crankcase with four valves per cylinder (with camshaft adjustment). This mill is built with an air-to-water intercooler and comes with an ECO start/stop function. It works together with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT sports transmission offering three modes: "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual).

Compared to its predecessor, the new S63 AMG is up to 220 lbs (100 kg) lighter thanks to the AMG forged alloys, a lightweight lithium-ion battery (-20 kg / 44 lbs) and also a lighter two-piece braking system. Aluminum was used for the car's outer skin (including front end and roof) while the spare wheel recess is made from carbon fiber. As a result, the short wheelbase model weighs 4,343 lbs (1,970 kg) with the fuel tank 90 percent filled but without driver and luggage. The long wheelbase model tips the scales at 4,398 lbs (1,995 kg) in the same conditions.

In terms of performance, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.4 seconds for both SWB and LWB versions. The all-wheel drive 4MATIC long-wheelbase model is considerably faster than the other two, accomplishing the sprint in just 4 seconds. All three are electronically-limited to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Fuel consumption stands at 27.9 mpg UK (23.2 mpg US or 10 liters / 100 km) for the rear-wheel drive models and at 27.4 mpg UK (22.8 mpg US or 10.3 liters / 100 km) for the 4MATIC version, with CO2 emissions of 237 g/km for the first two and 242 g/km for the all-wheel drive model.

For more money, clients can configure their S63 AMG with the optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite brakes which are 20 percent lighter than stock ones. The system has 420mm front brake discs and comes with specially painted brake calipers featuring the AMG Carbon Ceramic logo.

The rear-wheel drive S63 AMG has Magic Body Control with a stereo camera installed within the windscreen which can scan the road and alter suspension damping automatically to individual or multiple wheels at once. The entire procedure is done within a fraction of a second to provide optimal driving comfort.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will arrive in U.S. showrooms this November, while UK will get it before the end of the year. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

Now that's serious. This would be my choice even over an M5. Awesome car.

Damn! 4398lbs puts it only 11 lbs over the M5. That's light for a true luxury saloon.

Autoblog has a whole writeup. I'm absolutely in love, I would suggest reading the press release. AWD version does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds

It looks that way. Magic body control is only for the RWD car, awd is only for th LWB car. Don't quite understand it myself.

That actually looks pretty sweet. A little subtle but that's not necessarily bad. What a q-car.
