The 996/997 Snow Tire Thread by The Tire Rack

Winter is around the corner and it's time to buy NOW. Worldwide demand for performance snow tires is at its highest and tire manufacturers are trying to keep up. MUCH OF WHAT IS LISTED BELOW WILL LIKELY BE SOLD OUT FOR THE SEASON BY MID-NOVEMBER AT THE LATEST.

997 Turbo/Widebody with standard brakes:

If you would like to switch stock tires out for dedicated snow tires we recommend the following:

Pirelli Winter 240 Sotozero:

235/35 19 $272 each
295/30 19 $357 each

This will be the only tire we will have in any reliable quantities this season for stock wheels.

If you choose to do wheels and tires in a pre built set, we offer an 18 setup that easily clears the brakes and will offer you better traction due to decreased tread and taller sidewalls on the rear. Plus, it removes the hassle of switching tires out twice a year.

A few wheels are available this year. Our new Sport Edition Cup 4, and the Sport Edition Cup 3. The Cup 3 is in black with machined lip only and available until gone.

18X8 5-130 ET54 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $179.00
Install using original
Porsche lug hardware and
center cap.

18X10 5-130 ET40 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $189.00

18X8.5 5-130 ET52 SPORT EDITION CUP 3 $275.00
5-114/5-130 3MM SPACER No Charge

18X10 5-130 ET47 SPORT EDITION CUP 3 $345.00

Optional Beru TPMS sensors are available:

BERU 43MM LONG VALVE STEM $ 8.00
BERU 433MHZ SENSOR $94.00

996 Widebody:

Your car has 18 x 11" stock wheels in the rear, and there are no snow tires that will fit them other than Dunlop Winter Sport M3 in 275/35 18. They can be used in conjunction with Winter Sport 3D 225/40 18 in the front.

225/40R18 DUNLOP WINTER SPORT 3D $169
275/35R18 DUNLOP WINTER SPORT M3 $245.00

Pirelli makes a 295/35 18 Winter 240 Snowsport, but it's a bit tall for use on AWD cars at 26.1"

Do ****NOT**** use 265 width tireson 11" wide rear wheels. Others have done it and say it is OK, But it is not. It overstresses the tire's bead by being pulled too far out and could be potentially dangerous.

For best snow traction a more narrow tire is better. A 265 width tire is recommended and will need a 10" wide wheel.

We recommend the Sport Edition Cup 4 wheel in 18 x 8" 54 ET front and 18 x 10 ET 40 rear. They install using stock Porsche hardware and will accept Porsche centercaps.

18X8 5-130 ET54 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $179.00
18X10 5-130 ET40 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $189.00

Although discontinued this year, until gone we also have the Moda MD 1 in 18 x 8.5 ET48 front and 18 x 10 ET58 rear with supplied 15MM H&R spacer and longer bolts for the rear.

18X8.5 5-130 ET48 MODA MD1 $244.00
18X10 5-130 ET58 MODA MD1 $219.00
1PR 15MM H&R 5-130 SPACERS $96.00
10 longer bolts - No charge

For tires, we recommend The Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 or Pirelli Winter Snow Sport 240.

225/40 18 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM25 XL $185.00
265/35 18 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM25 XL $248.00

225/40 18 PIRELLI WINTER 240 SNOW SPORT N3 $214.00
265/35 18 PIRELLI WINTER 240 SNOW SPORT N3 $248.00

996 Narrowbody:

We recommend the Sport Edition Cup 3 wheel in 18 x 8" 54 ET front and 18 x 10 ET 58 rear.

18X8 5-130 ET54 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $179.00
18X10 5-130 ET58 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $189.00

For tires, we recommend The Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 or Pirelli Winter Snow Sport 240 in 225/40 18 and 265/35 18.

225/40R18 BS BLIZZAK LM25 XL $185.00
265/35R18 BS BLIZZAK LM25 XL $248.00

225/40R18 PI W240 SNOW SPORT N3 214.00
265/35VR18 PI W240 SNOW SPORT N3 248.00

The narrowbody cars will also accept 17" wheels.

17X7.5 5-130 POR ET52 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $159.00
17X9 5-130 POR ET47 SPORT EDITION CUP 4 $169.00

They install using stock Porsche hardware and will accept Porsche centercaps.

Run with the above wheels with a 205/50 17 or 225/45 17 front and a 255/40 17 rear.

I would recommend Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25

205/50R17 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM25 XL $130.00
225/45R17 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM25 $155.00
255/40R17 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK LM25 $185.00

I also recommend Pirelli Winter 240 Snow Sport

205/50VR17 Pirelli Winter Sport 240 N1 $168.00
255/40VR17 Pirelli Winter Sport 240 N1 $185.00
