The 1970s and 1980s were the greatest years for the “hero car” in television and movies. Vanishing Point, Starsky and Hutch, Knight Rider, Smokey and the Bandit, and more all had cars that were just as famous as the actors driving them. Of all the wild cars from that era, one of my favorites was the Ferrari Testarossa from Miami Vice. No plebian Ford or Dodge was good enough for Crockett and Tubbs. Oh no, they needed the speed and style that only Italy could provide. And now one of the very cars from that great TV show is hitting the auction block.

This 1986 Testarossa has been verified by Ferrari North America as one of the two black cars that Ferrari sent to the filming crew. Yes, I said black. The show was sent two black cars, but they had them repainted white so it was easier to film them at night.

There may be lots of Testarossas in the world, but there were only two originals used for Miami Vice. If you want to own a truly special piece of amazing 80s nostalgia that also happens to be a super rare and special Ferrari, this is the perfect chance. The auction will take place during the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Expect the sale price to be somewhere in the range of “wow, that’s a lot” up to “wait, how much?!”
