Ever Heard of a Qvale Mangusta?

Just Because It’s a Red Italian Sports Car, That Doesn’t Necessarily Mean the Mangusta Is the Car for You

What the hell is a Mangusta? We agree, it’s not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when the words “Italian” and “exotic” are thrown into the mix. And yet nevertheless, here is Doug DeMuro standing next to one in his hilarious video above.

But first, a little history on what a Qvale Mangusto is. In short, it’s a limited-run sports car that is made primarily of Mustang parts — albeit with some strange additional touches. The car is the brainchild of famed automotive hero Alejandro de Tomaso, the man behind the de Tomaso Pantera. However, as the car transitioned from concept to actual production, de Tomaso left the project completely. That left the Qvale family — who own a series of automotive dealerships in the U.S. — to finish the project alone. So they did.

The result is a rather strange looking red convertible that, as Doug points out, has a fair amount of Mustang DNA. Everything from engine to turn stalk can be found in an early 2000s Mustang. That said, the Mangusta also has a unique, two-stage convertible top, and is covered in Italian leather. It’s quite weird, don’t you think?

Check out Doug’s tour of the Mangusta and get a quick lesson on one of the more rare sports cars you will ever see. Then let us know your own thoughts.
