Is the Mazzanti Evantra Millecavalli the Most Powerful Italian Supercar?

It’s only been about five years since Mazzanti Automobili released plans for its first independent supercar, the Evantra, but the company already wants a bigger chunk of the famed Italian supercar marketplace. Since the Evantra debuted in 2013, Mazzanti has been working on improving the car, and last week that work showed up in the form of the Evantra Millecavalli, a 1,000 brake horsepower maniac that’s claiming to be the most powerful production car in Italy.

Think about that. Italy has Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Pagani, and Mazzanti comes out of (relatively) nowhere with shots to the jaws of every one of them. The original Evantra, of which only five were produced per year, came to market with an aluminum 7.0-liter V8 that put out 751 horsepower. The newest, more extreme version amps that up by 30%.

The Evantra Millecavalli uses a 7.2-liter twin-turbo V8 to produce 1,000 bhp and 885 lb-ft of torque. That validates the claim of most powerful (the Ferrari LaFerrari has 950 bhp). As everybody knows these days, though, power is nothing without light weight, so the Millecavalli only registers in at 2,866 pounds (1,300 kg). That equates to a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds and a 250 mph top speed, supposedly.

That’s certainly impressive, and a great achievement. The exterior… well, that’s a matter of interpretation, as far as styling goes. If anything, it just looks like it’s trying way too hard to be the stereotypical idea of a fast supercar. Maybe smooth it out a bit, Mazzanti, aye?
